The past 8 years have been a journey in learning as a Web Developer, given the amount of change and growth in the industry. I started building websites using a LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL and PHP) stack but quickly noticed common patterns that were applicable to many projects, which led me to build my own framework for bootstrapping websites quickly.
I ventured into Web Development and replaced this custom bootstrapped framework after I attended a WordCamp event where I was introduced to WordPress. From there, I switched my workflow to include Content Management Systems with a focus on WordPress, Drupal and Magento
I now dabble in all facets of web development. While studying Electrical Engineering, I was employed part time for a digital consulting agency where I worked on web applications in Rails, Laravel, and Django. More recently I’ve been using Node.js exclusively for the backend and React.js for the frontend when building custom apps. Not everything new is great, but the basics stay the same. Given the nature of the industry and the pace of change, being able to identify good patterns and adapt to them has made me a strong fit for Blue Door Consulting’s web team and the varying needs of our clients.
Outside of work, I like playing soccer whenever I get the chance, and I like producing/synthesizing EDM tracks (Electronic Dance Music). There is an interesting intersection between music theory and computer programming which is fascinating to me. Many new platforms are being written; this will be a great space to keep up with in the coming years—and my coworkers at Blue Door Consulting tell me they appreciate having a DJ on the team!
