Case Study :: Lara's Tortilla Flats






Lara’s Tortilla Flats is a small restaurant, located in Oshkosh’s downtown. Its sole proprietor, Ada Lara Thimke, has built a reputation for serving quality Mexican cuisine that is authentic and festive. Since 2001, four other Mexican restaurants have opened in the community, creating intense competition in the marketplace. Blue Door Consulting was hired to help the restaurant differentiate itself from the competition, using cost-effective marketing tactics.
Blue Door Consulting conducted an analysis of current marketing tactics and re-aligned the restaurant’s marketing strategies. The restaurant’s logo and advertising were modified with the goal of visually communicating the restaurant’s festive cuisine and evoking a positive emotional response in prospective diners. Blue Door Consulting worked with Lara’s to implement new sales technology, laying the groundwork for database-driven marketing. Finally, Blue Door Consulting has begun to help Lara’s launch an expanded catering service, providing an additional revenue stream for the restaurant. After implementing its new look, Lara’s won the 2004 Oshkosh Northwestern People’s Choice Awards for Best Mexican Restaurant and Best Margaritas. Just after its launch, Lara’s landed a significant weekly booking for its catering service.
