"Thank you for the super job on our new Web site. We constantly get compliments on the professional look of the site. It was fun and easy to work with you. You easily understood what look we wanted and translated that into a working Web site. We hope that we will have the opportunity to benefit from your special skills in the future. Again, thank you for such a wonderful, professional and easy to use Web site."

Case Study :: Oshkosh Area Humane Society

www.oahs.org

In 2002, the Oshkosh Area Humane Society was planning to launch a $2 million capital campaign to build a new shelter and service center. Early focus group interviews found limited support for a multi-million dollar campaign to benefit animals; however, the state of the current shelter was inadequate and a campaign was the only option.
Blue Door Consulting developed campaign-marketing materials demonstrating how the Oshkosh Area Humane Society’s primary clients are people—not animals. Through a campaign case statement, direct mail and PowerPoint presentation, the Humane Society’s work with people was emphasized.
Each year, the Humane Society answers more than 40,000 questions and hosts more than 2,000 visitors. While many are seeking to adopt a pet, others need information on animal behavior, training, animal interaction with children, etc. In addition, the Humane Society is the ‘second call’ in many crisis situations, providing shelter for pets of families escaping domestic abuse or those whose owners are hospitalized. Finally, the Humane Society provides significant community outreach programs. From staff presentations educating students on how to safely approach animals to volunteer ‘pet therapy’ sessions with seniors, the Humane Society’s community efforts became the focus of the campaign.
Additionally, Blue Door Consulting developed the Humane Society’s new Web site, which features photos of animals available for adoption, capital campaign news, pet behavior information and more. The Humane Society uses the site’s content-management system to routinely update postings of pets waiting for new homes. In March 2005, the Oshkosh Area Humane Society completed its new shelter and service center, which is 10 times the size of the previous shelter. The new building is a community treasure, providing space for animal behavior/training classes and showcasing animals available for adoption.
