A Lesson from the Ladder

Brenda Haines | Strategy DevelopmentIn strategic planning, we’re often asked about the difference between vision, mission, goals and strategy. The ladder provides a good metaphor.

YA ladderour vision is where you want to be.

Your mission outlines what you need to do to get from where you are to where you want to be.

Your goals are what you’ll achieve along the climb – they are individual steps toward the vision.

Your strategy is how you’ll make the climb and achieve each goal.

Just like a ladder, a strategic plan is only a tool. Simply having one doesn’t get the job done. You still have to decide to climb.
