How this new tool will increase selling on Instagram

Social media’s latest feature, shoppable tags on Instagram®, made its debut last week.  This feature brings a new way to shop on Instagram-instead of clicking through bios on Instagram pages to get to shoppable links, customers can use the shopping icon on Instagram photos to purchase the items shown.

Currently, only 20 retailers are testing out this new technology, however Instagram hopes to capitalize on this tool in the future. Many businesses are looking for new ways to incorporate selling on Instagram and are willing to pay for exposure to new customers. Similar to Facebook®, Instagram will allow retailers to sponsor their photos (for a price), exposing  shoppable pictures to users who may not be following the retailer.

This latest shopping tool has potential for online retailers looking for new ways to use Instagram for ecommerce. If successful, Instagram’s product could create the latest trend in online shopping with mobile devices.
