Data Analyst

“Honesty is a very expensive gift. Don’t expect it from cheap people.” — Warren Buffett

Analytical Futuristic Individualization Ideation Activator

“Why” is probably the question I ask most often, which at times drives my friends and co-workers nuts.  I promise it comes from a good place—I’m naturally curious and I want to truly understand the problem.  By asking “why,” it helps us distinguish the difference between symptoms and root causes.

Throughout my career I continued to find myself asking “why,”, but getting a quick answer was a challenge.  In my experiences, reporting has typically been a function of the IT department.  What I’ve found is that asking a question may provide an answer, but ultimately an answer creates another question!  This is a natural process, especially for curious people, but it can create some friction with IT personnel who have a million other priorities on top of providing reporting.  To keep relationships with IT humming smoothly, I developed my analytical skills so I could become as self-sufficient as possible.  This allows me to ask as many questions as I need to get to root causes, and it’s guilt-free!  I suppose I’ve become a data analyst more from necessity than passion, but in the process, I’ve found that I love to be able to remove opinions where possible and allow information to tell the true story.

My career has taken a few twists and turns, but I’ve found a great landing spot.  My background is marketing (with an MBA from UW-Oshkosh) and I’ve spent time in many different aspects of marketing.  I’ve worked on everything from customer acquisition and retention, direct mail, print advertising, email marketing, social media marketing, website structure, tradeshows/large events, and, increasingly over time, data analysis.

I’m beyond excited to apply what I’ve learned to help Blue Door clients succeed, while undoubtedly continuing to learn from a very talented group of people!
