Identifying spam is critical to protecting your marketing data. Today, nearly half of internet traffic comes from spam bots.

Here are three unexpected places to watch out for marketing spam.

Place #1 – Avoid Facebook messenger spam

Train your social team how to spot phishing messages—including those that ask for personal information or urgent action. On Facebook Messenger, nearly 10% of users report receiving spam.

Place #2 – Spot Google Analytics spam

If your team sees high Google Analytics 4 web traffic but not much engagement, check for clues that it might be spam. These clues include user location, engagement rate and referral domains.

Place #3 – Prevent spam in your email list

Wondering how to keep your email list clean? Your team can remove subscribers with the same names, uncommon email domains or odd subscription times. Validating new subscribers should become a regular process.

It’s not possible to prevent all spam. However, educating your team on how to respond to spam can lessen its impact on your marketing efforts.
