We’ve added a number of talented people to our Blue Door Consulting team recently. With all these new faces, our teammates felt it was time to do some quality ‘get to know you’ team building. Instead of sitting in a circle and singing Kumbaya- which I’m sure would have been memorable- we opted for a different approach. Since we are experts at asking questions, it seemed fitting to do a good, old-fashioned Q&A session.
Each team member picked a fellow team member’s name out of a hat and asked that person any question they wanted (sticking to PG-rated topics of course). This concept of a casual Q&A session could be used as an icebreaker or team building exercise with any group: new employees, clients, vendors, volunteer groups, even friends and family.
Not sure what kind of questions to ask? Here are some of the ones our team brainstormed:
- What was the best gift/present you have ever gotten?
- What was your most embarrassing moment?
- What was your favorite birthday?
- If I gave you a million dollars right now (and you are not able to keep it) how would you spend it?
- How many bow-ties do you own? (This question was directed to Jacob – our bow-tie aficionado here in the office.)
- If you could go back in time and give your 19-year-old-self one piece of advice, what would it be?
- What was your worst ever parenting moment?
- What does the fox say?
- When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
- If you weren’t in your current job, where would you be working?
- What are your weaknesses?
- Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
- If there was a movie about your life, which actress/actor would play you?
- What is your least favorite movie?
- Everyone has a nickname growing up – what was yours and why?
- What is your favorite holiday and why?
- What was your most unusual job?
- Would you play travel roulette? (More commonly referred to as packing, getting on a plane and heading to an unknown city.)
- If you could have ANY dream job (realistic or not), what would it be?
- If you had to choose one restaurant to have limitless free food from, what would it be?
- Name one thing that drives you crazy.
- Would you rather attend school at Hogwarts or live in Narnia?
- Best moment of your life and why?
- If you could live anywhere for a year, where would you live?
It turned out to be a really fun activity! Ann Padley took some video clips of our Q&A session, so stay tuned. You’ll be able to get an insider’s peak at the team. : )
