It takes less than a second for a user to form an opinion about a website and 76% of users may switch to a competitor due to a poor experience.

With thoughtful planning, you can encourage users to stay on your site. Let’s look at three website usability tips for 2023.

Tip #1: Only ask for a user’s location when necessary

64% of users have quit doing business with a company when it asks for too much personal information. Only ask for location when users access a location-dependent feature.

Tip #2: Avoid chat dialogs that are not initiated by the user

Site-initiated chat dialogs can be an unwanted disruption for users. Instead, place chat links in the header, footer and help sections of your website.

Tip #3: Include plenty of space between tappable elements on mobile

Prevent users from accidentally tapping on the wrong element, which can leave them disoriented. Place at least 2 millimeters between elements, with up to 10 millimeters between main elements.
