My friend recommends…

out of the blue Brenda Haines April 2, 2008

Brenda HainesI love eating out. Food and wine are one of my passions. (Other than seafood, I’ll pretty much try anything.)

So, when this morning’s WOMMA (Word of Mouth Marketing Association) e-newsletter included a bit about a handy little Facebook app called Loladex, I was delighted.

Loladex is in a BETA mode right now. If you haven’t seen it, Loladex is a referral tool that lets people in your network recommend restaurants, health clubs, financial institutions, auto mechanics, contractors and more. This tool brings offline recommendations online. And, it takes the anonymity out of those recommendations.

This means, you can see recommendations from specific friends.

So, if your friend has a more adventurous (some might say dodgy) taste in restaurants or is willing to work with contractors who don’t meet your standards (i.e.: you’re unsure if they report their income to the IRS), you can choose to ignore those recommendations. And, your friend never needs to know.

This functionality is similar to what LinkedIn offers for B2B recommendations, but focused on B2C. If you’ve seen other similar apps that I should check out, let me know.

Of course, I’m always open to restaurant recommendations, too.
