Feeling ‘Bewitched’

Jaimy Szymanski | Marketing CampaignsGrowing up, my sister and I were huge Nick at Nite fans.

So, it goes without saying that I know a classic TV show reference when I see one … well, usually that is.

I’m talking about the new(er) Electrolux commercial featuring Kelly Ripa wherein she is wearing about 20 household hats, all the while using the Electrolux appliances to help her through the day’s toils.

I saw it. Thought it was cute. Understood the point of the product and the commercial conveyed it well.

Didn’t get the Bewitched reference.
But, that’s just me.

I was at home this weekend, visiting my parents and mentioned the Electrolux Induction Hybrid Cooktop that boils water in 90 seconds to my mom, asking her if she had saw the commercial yet for it.

She, of course, replied: “Oh, yeah – the one with Kelly Ripa where she’s like Samantha from Bewitched.”

And, the lightbulb goes on.

Just goes to show you – a successful commercial, marketing tactic, promotion, you name it, is one that resonates with both the intended audience and those nearby.

Because, it’s obvious I’m not in the market for Electrolux appliances anytime soon. But, they look pretty cool to me, and, if I was in the market for them, the commercial would have done it’s job.

My mom though? Definitely in the market. And, got the commercial’s reference. Talk about knowing your exact target audience.

Do I smell market research?
