Because a booby prize is still a prize.

In this post: Blue Door offers a runner-up prize to those who don’t win the #squarespace iPhone giveaway …

Jaimyu SzymanskiIf you’ve been active on Twitter or anywhere in the social media world within the last month, you’ve likely witnessed an explosion of business promotions.

From Murphy-Goode’s “A Really Goode Job” contest, wherein applicants apply via online video submission to work in Napa Valley for six months at 10K/month (sounds terrible to me)…

…to Elations juice’s Twitter account giving away a wellness weekend for two in California to one lucky follower…

…to the latest of craze – Square Space giving away an iPhone a day for 30 days to a lucky tweeter who includes the hash tag #squarespace in their tweet(s).

Promotions like these – and many, many more out there – attract hundreds (sometimes hundreds of thousands) of people to join in on the fun. And, in turn, increase brand awareness and likely get these businesses some great press. (For example – I had never even heard of Elations until they began following me, and I entered the contest by following back. Now, I’ve noticed the brand in three different instances – Crazy, huh?)

But, let’s jump back to that “fun” part. The most enticing part of entering these promotions is usually the thought of winning. Unfortunately though, when you don’t win … ever … it becomes less and less appealing to participate.

So, we thought that it would be a great idea to lift the spirits of all the non-winners out there by offering a booby prize (er, I mean, “second place … yeah!”) to entrants of the #squarespace iPhone┬« giveaway.

All you have to do to win the daily prize is tweet the hash tag #BDCBoobyPrize with each #squarespace tweet. That’s it! We’ll award one swag bag per day until the #squarespace contest ends on July 7th. Or, until we run out – whatever comes first.

The BDC Booby Prize will contain: A gift bag, two luggage tags, two mint tins, a magnet with recipe for the oh-so-infamous Blue Fusion cocktail and a five-pack of original greeting cards. Take a look-see!

The winner will be selected completely subjectively, based solely on your ability to tweet something clever, witty or pithy, as that’s how I judge everything else important in my life.

If you have any other questions about the contest, please leave a comment, and I will be sure to make up an answer off the top of my head as quickly as possible.

Good luck – I look forward to reading your tweets!
