Maximizer, Responsibility, Futuristic, Relator, Achiever

When I was a senior in high school, I took a class where we worked on all kinds of design projects—anywhere from rebranding and packaging to web design. One of our first projects was to create a vehicle admission sticker for the Wisconsin DNR as part of a contest they run every year. My teacher did this project with every class because it was a good way to learn to design within specific parameters and, just for fun, he would submit everyone’s design into the contest.

We all designed our stickers, had a class critique, added it to our semester’s portfolio and packed it up. In my mind, the project was over. I completely forgot about it until the last day of the school year when I found out my design was chosen as the sticker for 2016. I was completely shocked when I heard the news, but ultimately found it encouraging. I was considering studying design and after hearing this, I decided that pursuing design was the right path for me.

After that, I went on to study at UW-Green Bay and earned my bachelor’s in design arts with a minor in computer science. As I was diving deeper into the world of design, I decided I wanted to know more about how it works on the backend. I took classes on writing code and design programs in Java and C++. Although I did cherish the many late nights spent teaching myself to code from YouTube®, struggling to get my programs running on my Mac®, I went back to focusing on design and ultimately found a passion for web and digital design. I graduated, moved cities, started as a designer at Blue Door Consulting and got married all within 6 months. All that change at one time sounds overwhelming, but I couldn’t imagine things going any differently!

When I’m not designing, you’ll probably find me at Target®, hanging out with my two cats, Olive and Salem, or learning something new to play on my ukulele. When the weather is nice, my husband and I like to spend our time outside biking, hiking or hanging out on the water. I love anything Disney® and am always counting down the days until I can go back to hang out with my favorite mouse!
